Nicole + Evan | The Grand Del Mar Wedding

Everything about this Jewish wedding in San Diego was grand. Only fifteen minutes from my house, The Grand Del Mar resort is one of San Diego’s top-rated hotels. Nicole and Evan proved to be the kind of clients that we love – pushing us to be our best, planning the day’s schedule around photography, unafraid to show their emotions and offering us drinks at the reception. The event planner was Laura Rizzo of Weddings by Design.

Nate + Jenny | Sayulita, Mexico Wedding

This wedding was so much more than a job. It was a family vacation, an unforgettable adventure and a chance to witness two wonderful friends marry in this little surf town north of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Santa Barbara and Colorado wedding photographers Nate and Jenny had their ceremony at Don Pedros palapa overlooking the Playa Los Muertos. Andrea with Sayulita Dream Weddings was the event planner. We experienced the unbearable heat we had heard about, and without air conditioning under the palapa, the dance floor became a happy, sweaty mess.

Marcela + Josh | Zacatecas, Mexico Wedding

This beautiful mountain city is known for few gringos and the bullring that was converted into the luxury Hotel Quinta Real. It’s open air circle, filled with candles, was an inspiring space for a wedding reception. The ceremony was in the ruins at Museo Rafael Coronel. I met Marcela at more than one wedding in Mexico before her and Josh decided on this little-known place. Their wedding planner, Mari Carmen De Alba, took time out of her insanely busy day to drive us around town to scout portrait locations the day before the wedding. An unexpected surprise on this trip was finding new friendships with Karla and Gabo of Red Carpet Films. I’ll never forget partying in the mine shaft at El Eden, riding the tram above town, Marcela’s infectious enthusiasm and their low light, multi-faith ceremony full of vibrant colors.

Ashley + Rick | Temecula, California Wedding

The stone house at Temecula Creek Inn is a wedding venue close to where I live, tucked in a little canyon by Interstate 15. It’s always a treat to photograph a wedding and simply drive home in the end. Since I often travel to weddings, this was a change. This crew can drink. The guys took the lead in the beginning and then later in the night, it was the ladies that impressed me the most. Christine Ong with Lavash Weddings and Events and TCI’s Danielle Magee were the easy-going coordinators that quietly made our jobs super easy. Ashley, Rick and their friends have a wild side, a trait I have no problem connecting with.

Vanessa + Michael | San Miguel De Allende Wedding

When it rains in San Miguel De Allende it only seems to make this place more romantic and magical. The San Miguel De Allende Parroquia, a famous landmark visible from most vantage points in town, is where Vanessa and Michael had their wedding ceremony. Their catholic mass was the first event I photographed inside of this historic building. They both got ready at Hotel Casa Rosada and their reception was at the private residence, Villas Xido. There is no wedding like those done by Penzi Weddings and Events. Like a wedding photographer with his or her own style, Guadalupe and her team have their own look and feel. Their attention to detail, hard work and authenticity continues to amaze me. What I appreciate about Michael is his quiet wisdom, demand for perfection and willingness to do anything for pictures. Vanessa was a dream to work with. Her stunning features and easy laugh made her my favorite subject in recent memory. Congratulations to Photographer Kristina Cazares Neri for expecting a baby! She traveled all the way to Mexico while pregnant to photograph this wedding with me.

Lauren + Kyle | Santa Fe Wedding

On an extraordinarily windy day, the stunning bride Lauren and her kind fiancé, Kyle, married at the private Santa Fe, New Mexico resort Las Campanas. Going back to Santa Fe for a wedding always brings back lots of memories of living around here. I will always love N.M. for it’s strange charm, food and amazing light. The band Downtown Fever came all the way from Dallas to rock out what looked liked the SNL stage. Heidi and Lindsey of Plum Studios were the wedding planners.

Pedro + Cristina | San Miguel De Allende Wedding

On a rainy evening in San Miguel De Allende last fall, I had dinner with Cristina’s parents, unknowing that in 2014 I would be photographing their daughter’s wedding. Cristina and Pedro are proof that opposites attract. She is as shy as he is outgoing. They planned their wedding at the new wedding venue, Hacienda San Jose La Vista. Their Catholic mass was near the Jardin at the Temple of San Francisco. The always impressive army at Penzi Weddings and Events  made everything colorful, photogenic and over the top.

Mimi + Jonathan| Malibu Wedding

Surrounded by animals, mountains and vineyards, the adorable Mimi and Jon married at Saddlerock Ranch in Malibu, California on  a beautiful yet unseasonably chilly day. These guys love photos and were so wonderfully easy to work with. I can also say the same about their wedding planner, Catherine Cindy Leo of CCL Events.

Mahya + Enrique | San Miguel De Allende Wedding

Mahya and Enrique are crazy about photography which is why we are crazy about them. Their Mexican / Persian fusion wedding was in one of my favorite places – San Miguel De Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico. Their rehearsal dinner and ceremony were at Casa Cece. The reception, overlooking San Miguel Cathedral, was at The Instituto Allende, a place where art is taught and one reason this place is so famous among foreigners. Wedding photographers love San Miguel De Allende for it’s colorful architecture and beautiful light. However this rainy day didn’t stop us from wandering around the center taking portraits and having fun. The event planner was Guadalupe Alvarez of Penzi Weddings. Tamara + Eddy | San Diego Wedding

Our last wedding of 2013 was Tamara and Eduardo’s gigantic, Mexican Jewish wedding in Downtown San Diego at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel. This wedding venue is on San Diego bay overlooking Coronado Island. The day began with me valeting my car at the wrong hotel but finished with new friends and lots of flasks on the dance floor. I owe Tamara’s sister, Rashel, whom I met in Miami, a big thank you for introducing me to her family. It was a huge honor to finally work with one of San Diego’s top event planners, Laura Rizzo of Weddings by Design. Photos by Brett Butterstein and Mallory Olenius. Kristina Cazares Neri, thanks for assisting us!
